Our School Council
Oakley Primary Academy has a school council which is made up of a group of children from Year 1 upwards. The Council includes a member of staff and the Headteacher will often attend the meetings to discuss specific agenda items.
The children apply for the post on the council and are then chosen through a democratic process.
The school council meet regularly to discuss current issues relating to our school. They gather and represent the views of their peers and feedback to them on decisions made.
The children help make decisions about how to further develop the learning environment and how best to spend allocated money.
As well as teaching the children about the fundamental British value of democracy, it gives the pupils a voice within the school and gives the wider pupil body a feeling of ownership in some of the decisions leaders take.
Our school council elections for 2024-25 will be taking place midway through September.
