Ethos and Values
Ethos
We believe that every child should have the opportunity to Strive, Achieve and Flourish. All pupils and staff work hard to ensure our best efforts drive all we do. We aim high and be the best that we can possibly be and fulfil our potential to make a real difference.
Values
Values are principles that guide behaviour. At Oakley Primary Academy, adults and children are encouraged to model values as we believe this helps individuals to be effective learners, happy people and good citizens.
Our values-based education philosophy underpins work to actively promote fundamental British values of democracy, individual liberty, respect and tolerance of those from all faiths (or no faith), backgrounds and cultures. Assemblies, lessons and events promote spiritual, moral, social and cultural development, enabling guidance to what is right and what is wrong.
At Oakley, we want our children to be:
- Ready
- Responsible
- Respectful
It is these three principles that guide what we do. Below is information about how these principles might look in practice during a school day. Of course, this is not an exhaustive list!
These link perfectly to our Meridian Trust Values. Click the image for more information.
Achievement for all
A curriculum that supports all students to acquire the knowledge and skills necessary to succeed in Modern Britain and to maximise their potential in public examinations.
Valuing People
A curriculum that is flexible enough to meet the needs of every individual learner.
High-Quality Learning Environment
Through the curriculum, pupils develop a lifelong love of learning and the necessary skills to be a resilient, confident and independent learner.
The Pursuit of Excellence
An academically rigorous curriculum that stretches and challenges all pupils and develops aspiration.
Extending the Boundaries of Learning
We provide a breadth of experience through the curriculum and beyond, including an entitlement for all pupils to educational visits and other activities that enhance and extend the curriculum. This includes providing a range of opportunities for spiritual, moral, social and cultural (SMSC) education that instill the values of the school, trust and society more widely.
Learning Outside the Classroom
Learning outside the classroom (LOtC) is not just about learning outdoors, in the fresh air outside. It encompasses the valuable learning experiences that occur in any setting outside of the classroom across the whole curriculum.
LOtC enhances academic learning, promotes personal and social development, broadens perspectives, connects our children with nature, and cultivates important skills for the future. It complements classroom learning by providing real-world experiences that inspire curiosity, ignite passion, and create lifelong learners.
At Oakley, inclusivity is fundamental to everything we do, and we ensure that LOtC is inclusive and available to all of our pupils.
