Acorns

Welcome to Acorns!

We are the youngest members of Oakley Primary Academy.
Our teacher is Miss Hayden and we have Mrs. Flint, Mrs. Green and Mrs. Jones who are amazing at helping us in the classroom with everything we do.

We provide a positive, caring, safe and stimulating environment, following children’s interests through activity-based topics. We are active learners, exploring the world through a range of indoor and outdoor experiences, always bringing along our wellies so we can experience the different types of weather!

In the Autumn Term in Early Years, our topic is 'Who am I?'

We are learning about our wonderful differences as we explore who we are and learn to celebrate our families and our features through the mediums of drawing and painting. We have small world activities helping us to share our experiences through play. We will also be exploring our favourite toys and discussing our favourite places we enjoy going to.

In our Forest School sessions, we have learned how to keep ourselves clean and safe whilst working outside; learning to change into the waterproofs and our wellies independently. We have already spent some time with Mrs Flint digging over the allotment and we found a plethora of bugs and beetles along the way! Using our bug jars, we have explored these minibeasts and recorded what we experienced onto the paper clipboards. We aim to explore more of our nature garden- as well as cooking up some stick soup in our mud kitchen and making natural artwork with the sticks, leaves and stones we find on the ground.

We are continuing with our Little Wandle phonics daily sessions and our three guided reading sessions per week. In maths, we are continuing to extend the learning in our inputs in both our inside and outside maths areas, exploring weight and capacity and counting reliably with numbers 0-20, putting them in order and saying which is one more/one less.

We will be focusing on the story The Everywhere Bear this half term and look into the different settings in the story, building a story map and talking about our own favourite toys.

In our PSHE, we are exploring our emotions, linking them to colours inspired by the story The Colour Monster and creating some fabulous collaged monsters!

We are beginning our weekly Gross Motor Disco and focusing on fine motor skills activities with beginning Gymnastics and dancing. We will also be focusing on fine motor activities with weekly Funky Fingers activities and pencil control, scissor skills and handwriting patterns.

Welcome to Oakley Primary Academy

It brings me great pleasure to welcome you to Oakley Primary Academy, a proud member of the Meridian Trust. Having joined the school in September 2023, I am honoured to be here to seek to make Oakley the first-choice school for parents and carers in the heart of the community of our wonderful village and local area.

We hope that, during their time with us, our children will enjoy exciting new experiences, deepen and broaden their knowledge of our curriculum, make new friends and love every day. We are very fortunate to have a highly-experienced, professional and dedicated staff body whom I know are committed to ensuring we do our very best for your children.

If you are a parent / carer who is considering sending your child to join our fantastic school, we encourage you to come and see us 'in action' during the day. We are confident that you will agree this is a place your child can thrive.

I look forward to meeting you.

Mr. Callum Brown
